WEPPA's dedication to education

Wake Emergency Physicians, PA (WEPPA) attracts physicians who are passionate about the clinical practice of emergency medicine and thrive on mentoring the next generation of medical professionals. The culture within WEPPA is one of relentless pursuit of knowledge, unity, and the shared goal of enhancing patient care through education.

In 1996, the UNC School of Medicine approached WEPPA and WakeMed to join them in establishing the UNC Emergency Medicine Residency Program, training UNC EM residents in adult and pediatric emergency medicine. To date, WEPPA has had the privilege of training just over 200 emergency medicine physicians, 40 of whom chose to join WEPPA after completing their training!

Our commitment to education and reputation for excellence in training have continued to grow. Our learners now include medical students from UNC and Campbell as well as APP students from Campbell, ECU, Meharry, Methodist University, North Carolina A&T, and Wake Forest APP Programs for their adult EM and pediatric EM rotations.

Additionally, the Children’s Emergency Department (CED) serves as the primary training site for the UNC Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) fellowship, which was established in 2006 and is supported by WEPPA and WakeMed. It is the only PEM Fellowship in the triangle area. Under WEPPA’s leadership, the CED is also the primary pediatric emergency medicine training site for both the UNC emergency medicine and family medicine residents.
