Stephanie Hughes, DO, grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She attended the University of Iowa for her undergraduate training and completed her Doctor of Osteopathy at the Kansas City University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1996. She completed a one-year rotating internship in Pontiac, Michigan, and then completed her emergency medicine residency at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital, where she served as Chief Resident for two years. After graduation, she worked in Michigan for six years, but she and her family moved to North Carolina in 2006 to get away from the cold and snow! After working for three years at CapeFear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Stephanie joined Wake Emergency Physicians in 2009. As a partner with WEPPA, she has served in various roles, including Assistant Medical Director at both WakeMed Cary and WakeMed Raleigh hospitals for several years. She currently serves as WEPPA’s Vice President of Clinical Operations, overseeing standardization, quality care, and patient throughput across all health systems staffed by WEPPA. She and her husband, Todd, have four children and live in Apex.
